How To Get Glowing Skin All Year Round

Experiencing dry, dehydrated skin more than usual lately? From contending with  UV rays and sweating in the summer to icy temperatures drying out our skin in winter, keeping our skin feeling and looking radiant all year round can be a challenge.

Luckily though, there are lots of simple skincare routine steps, as well as professional treatments, you can use to keep your complexion glowing from season to season.

How Does Dehydration Impact the Skin?

Whether it’s the height of summer or the middle of winter, staying hydrated is important for the whole body, and the skin is no exception, being made up of 64% water. Not maintaining good hydration levels can cause skin to develop dry patches, reduce skin elasticity and even form fine wrinkle lines.

Internal hydration can be mastered by simply drinking enough water. The NHS recommends 6-8 glasses per day. External hydration, on the other hand, can be achieved with a combination of skincare routine steps and hydrating facials.

Adapting Your Skincare Routine for Radiant Skin

To ensure that your skin is getting the love it needs, adapt your morning and evening skincare routine to handle all of the different skin stresses you’ll encounter through the season.

Morning Skincare Routine

  1. Prepare your skin for the day ahead by gently cleansing the skin. For oily or blemish-prone skin, try using a salicylic acid-based cleanser. For normal to dry skin, opt for a gentle non-foaming cleanser.
  2. Next, use a toner to rebalance your skin’s pH levels after cleansing.
  3. Apply serum – particularly one containing hyaluronic acid for hydration, or an antioxidant like Vitamin C to combat the damaging free radicals (unstable atoms that harm cells) created by UV rays.
  4. Choose a lightweight moisturiser to allow your skin to breathe in the heat.
  5. Apply suncream. Around half a teaspoon should be enough to cover your face and neck. Don’t forget your lips – their thin skin makes them very vulnerable to the sun’s rays.

One way to do this is to use tinted moisturiser in place of foundation. For extra benefit, try to find a foundation or tinted moisturiser with SPF for yet another boost of sun protection.

Evening Skincare Routine

  1. Double cleanse in the evening this helps to make sure any makeup or debris is fully washed away before bed.
  2. Exfoliate once or twice a week to remove dead skin and encourage cell turnover rate. This can be a morning or evening step, depending on your preference.
  3. Tone to rebalance your skin’s pH levels.
  4. Apply evening serums. This is a great time to use any potent or active ingredients such as retinol as this can increase the skin’s sensitivity to sun exposure.
  5. Apply a night cream with an extra hydration boost.

The Importance of Using SPF

We’ve mentioned SPF a few times now, but why is it so important? SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor, and it’s what prevents your skin from being damaged by the sun. With the help of SPF, you can prevent signs of premature ageing such as wrinkles and age spots, avoid sunburn and, perhaps most importantly of all, reduce the risk of skin cancer.

What is Hyaluronic Acid?

Another summer skin essential is Hyaluronic Acid. This gel-like substance has a high capacity to retain water, helping to keep your skin perfectly moisturised throughout the day.

Thanks to its moisture-retaining ability, Hyaluronic Acid is extremely beneficial for maintaining skin elasticity. This, in turn, reduces wrinkles and fine lines, helps blemishes heal faster, and reduces scarring.

What are the Benefits of Getting Regular Facials?

To truly give your skin the best possible care, scheduling regular facials has several benefits. This includes:

  • Fighting ageing and hyperpigmentation through stimulating collagen production
  • Unclogging congested pores
  • Removing dead skin cells
  • Nourishing the skin with antioxidants to give your complexion a much-needed boost
  • Preparing the skin for the transition across different seasons
  • External hydration with botanicals and products like hyaluronic acid

Facials Available at Evolve Medical

We have a number of advanced facials here at Evolve Medical that will help to transform your complexion, evoking radiance and rejuvenation.

Our micro-needling treatments use a Raffine Pen to stimulate collagen production in the skin. This is an excellent way to counteract the hyperpigmentation and skin ageing caused by the increased sun exposure we see in summer.

Our Morpheus8 treatment combines micro-needling with radiofrequency technology to permeate the skin at an even deeper level. This counteracts fine lines and wrinkles excellently, however, you’ll need to remove sunbathing from your routine for the 28 days before treatment. We also advise avoiding direct sun and using factor 50 sunblock during the following month.

If your main summer skin concern is dead skin cells and sunscreen clogging your pores as opposed to skin ageing, dermaplaning may be the facial for you. This exfoliation-focused facial uses a surgical scalpel to expertly remove any dirt from your skin.

The patented vortex technology of our Hydrafacial is perfect for giving your skin the external hydration that it desperately needs in the summer months. Plus, it provides your skin with nourishing antioxidants to help remove dead skin cells as well as ingredients such as ultra-hydrating hyaluronic acid.

And the wonders of our Hydrafacial aren’t reserved only for your face. It can also be used to remove dirt and toxins from your back and shoulder area, ideal after a summer spent wearing sunscreen.
