What happens at an anti-wrinkle appointment?

Wondering what happens during an appointment for anti-wrinkle injections?

Here’s your guide:

When you arrive for your appointment you will be asked to fill out a medical questionnaire. It is essential this is done accurately and honestly. We use Botox as an anti-wrinkle treatment which is a prescription only medicine. Some medications can react with Botox so it is important we have a full history from you. Our Nurse Prescriber will then discuss your treatment fully. You will be examined and our nurse will advise you honestly on the best course of action. We will discuss what results you can expect, we will also discuss potential side effects with you prior to any treatment.

Once you, as a patient are happy, and our nurse is happy to go ahead a prescription will be written for your Botox. We will collect this from our local pharmacy while you wait and then we can commence with your treatment.

The areas to be injected will be cleaned of any make-up and wiped with a sterile dressing to ensure the skin is clean. You will be asked to pull some funny faces to ascertain the injection points correctly. At this point we usually take some photographs. This is purely so we have a comparison when you return for your review appointment 2-4 weeks later. We will not use the photographs for any promotion/social media posts without you permission. The nurse will then mark the injection points on your face with a white pencil (this will be wiped off following treatment).

Once we have the prescription from the pharmacy the Botox will be mixed with sterile bacteriostatic saline and drawn into syringes ready for injection. You will be asked to sit back on the bed and relax. The number of injections administered will depend on how many areas you are having treated. It is generally better if you close your eyes though this is not essential. The treatment itself takes only a few minutes, most patients are surprised at how quickly this is over. Numbing cream is not required for this procedure.

Immediately post treatment there will be small bumps at each injection point, these settle very quickly so don’t be alarmed. Some patients will get the odd small bruise. These can usually be covered with make up.

You will be given an aftercare sheet with instructions to follow (nothing complicated). It’s not a good idea to go to the gym after treatment, avoid sunbeds, and don’t lie down for 4 hours.

We will arrange a follow up appointment. This will be 2-4 weeks after your treatment where a top up can be given if needed.
