Dermaroller: FactFile

What is Dermaroller?

Dermaroller is the microneedling of the skin. The history of microneedling stretches back in time to when doctors found that needling problematic scars led to a much improved and aesthetically pleasing outcome.

Dermaroller helps to reduce pore size, stretch marks, fine lines and wrinkles. It also helps to achieve better skin tone and texture and healthier, younger looking skin.

Genuine Dermaroller Therapy™ is a non-surgical option that works to improve the condition of the skin from within. It may significantly improve the appearance of:

  • Aged and sun damaged skin
  • Facial and décolleté lines and wrinkles
  • Stretch marks
  • Acne scars

Genuine Dermaroller Therapy™ provides advanced micro-medical skin-needling. A procedure that stimulates the skin to regenerate and repair itself naturally and safely, creating smoother, brighter, healthier, younger-looking skin.

How does Dermaroller work?

Dermaroller work by promoting the release of growth factors which stimulate the formation of new natural collagen and elastin in the papillary dermis.

Micro-needling has long been used in-clinic to help stimulate the repair processes within the skin. To tackle textural issues and the early signs of ageing, using a roller packed with tiny needles to create tunnels in the surface layers of the skin. The success of such treatments has led to the development of less invasive types of skin needling. These use a shorter length needle, to penetrate the skin. This act of puncturing the surface triggers the production of collagen and elastin to fill in these holes. This then has a knock-on effect on other depressions in the skin such as wrinkles and fine lines. These holes in the surface – which can’t be seen by the naked eye – also make it easier for the active ingredients in any serum or cream to penetrate deeper into the lower layers of the skin, essentially enhancing their corrective benefits and guaranteeing users better results in the long term.

What will happen at my appointment?

After a through medical consultation, your skin will be cleansed and then a topical anaesthetic will be applied. The cream will be left insitu for approximately 30 minutes. The cream reduces the sensation making the treatment more comfortable. After the cream will be removed and the practitioner will begin to roll over your skin. Dependent on the area treatment the session will last about 30 minutes.

How will I look after treatment?

Your skin will be very red post treatment, but will return to normal approximately 24 hours later.

Following the procedure you will look as though you have mild/moderate sunburn. Your skin may feel warm and tighter than usual. This will start to subside over the next 24 hours. Using broad spectrum, high-level UV protection, such as Heliocare, is also essential and it’s recommended that you use tepid water to cleanse your face until the redness has gone.

How long does the treatment last/when do I need to repeat the treatment?

It can take up to six weeks for visible signs of regeneration and repair to be obvious. The process will continue over the following month, ensuring you get a natural and long-lasting result.

For optimum results a course of three or six treatment are recommended. Treatments are spaced six weeks apart.
