Dermal Fillers: FactFile

Dermal Fillers

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are a popular choice for restoring volume and improving skin lines, wrinkle and folds. Dermal fillers can be use in many different areas on the face. Sadly, as we age the collagen and elastin in our skin begins to deteriorate. Our stores of hyaluronic acid reduces.

During the natural aging process the Malar Fat pad can begin to descend, this can lead to a devision line below the orbital rim and it can make the cheek area appear hollow. The Nasal labial folds become more prominent and possible ‘jowling’ can occur.

Dermal fillers can be used to soften static lines on the face, for example around the crows feet, tear troughs, frown lines and lip lines.

Most dermal fillers used today contain hyalauronic acid and lidocaine (for comfort during the procedure). The dermal fillers we use in treatments are approved by the FDA and have an excellent safety record.

What will happen at my appointment?

You will be asked to complete a thorough medical questionnaire and sign a consent form. A full medical consultation will be carried out and our highly experienced nurses will discuss the treatment options which are best suited to you. Photographs will be taken so that results can be compared at a review appointment. A local anesthetic cream will be applied if necessary. The filler will then be gently injected using either a needle or a cannula depending on the area.

How will I look afterwards?

There may be some slight bruising or swelling around the treated area. This will settle over a few days.

How long do dermal fillers last?

Dermal fillers last up to 12 months. This is dependent on the individual and on the area treated.
