Upper blepharoplasty is a type of eyelid surgery that aims to improve the appearance of your eyelids by removing excess skin to tighten and smooth the area around your eyes. As you age, your skin loses elasticity which can cause the eyelid to stretch, and excess skin in the upper eyelids folds over. This results […]
Eye Bags
Cosmetic under eye treatments that target sunken tear troughs and dark circles beneath the eyes can help restore a youthful appearance and rejuvenate self-confidence. With facial aesthetic procedures such as Morpheus8, you can counteract some of the physical effects of ageing and minimise symptoms of certain medical conditions.
What Are Dark Circles?
Dark circles can form under the eyes for a number of reasons, as the skin becomes loose and blood vessels are more visible. This can happen as a result of ageing, when the tissue and muscles beneath your eyes weaken, causing the skin to droop.
Both dark circles and tear trough issues often take the form of loose, saggy skin or crepey skin, both of which can affect your appearance. There are a variety of remedies thought to provide temporary alleviation of dark circles, but depending on the cause, you may require professional treatment.
What Are The Causes Of Under Eye issues?
Some of the most common causes of dark circles and other under eye issues include:
- Ageing
- Medical conditions
- Lack of sleep
- Stress
- Smoking
If you begin to notice puffiness around your eyes, it could be attributed to one of these causes and a sign that you may need to change your lifestyle or seek professional treatment. If you are bothered by dark circles or crepey skin beneath your eyes, consult a member of our team to discuss your options.
Do You Have Dark Circles?
If the dark circles under your eyes have formed slowly or you’ve had them for a long time, you may not notice the severity of them. When detecting whether or not you have dark circles or other under eye issues, there are key areas of skin around the eye which you should inspect.
First is the tear trough, located beneath the eye and above the upper cheek, which naturally features more delicate skin. As this area begins to sag, a fluid bag can form, creating a darker appearance on the surface of the skin and sinking your tear trough even more. To compensate for this, fat will form just above in the orbicularis roll. It’s this fat that will create a puffy appearance and, contrasted with the sunken tear trough below, it can create a severe appearance.
This can change from day to day too, as the elasticity of the skin can fluctuate. This means that one day dark circles under your eyes could look worse than the next, but no one wants to live with that uncertainty.
Under Eye Treatments
At Evolve we offer a range of treatments, from microneedling and radiotherapy to surgical procedures. There is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ treatment to alleviate under eye issues, so it’s important to consult our expert team to discover which treatment is right for you.
Tear Trough Treatment
Tear trough treatment utilises the benefits of dermal filler to reduce wrinkles, lines and dark circles that have formed under the eyes. As the tear trough is a highly susceptible area of the eyes to lose elasticity, treatments to improve the aesthetic of tear troughs have become extremely popular.
Morpheus8
Utilising radiofrequency technology, our Morpheus8 treatment is able to penetrate deep beneath the skin, stimulating the growth of natural proteins such as collagen and elastin, which will give you a more youthful look.
Morpheus8 is able to help with crepey skin around the eyes without physically breaking the skin.
CACI Treatment – Eye Lift
Using serum-filled CACI microcurrent rollers and a Hydro Eye Mask, the Eye Revive treatment targets dark circles and puffiness around the eyes, reducing severity. This can help restore a more youthful look by softening wrinkles and fine lines.
Anti-Wrinkle Injections
Age and other factors can affect all of us differently, which means that some may develop wrinkles at a much younger age than others. To counteract these effects and restore a more youthful appearance, we offer anti-wrinkle injections, which are particularly effective on crows feet (laughter lines) and in turn make the eye area appear more youthful.
Hydrafacial – Perk Eye
Hydrafacials are used to hydrate and rejuvenate skin across your entire face, which naturally has a positive effect on the skin beneath your eyes. This can help reduce dark circles and wrinkles around your eyes, leaving your skin feeling healthier.
The treatment includes the use of the perk eye replenishing serum which directly treats the delicate skin around your eyes, leaving your skin firmer and more hydrated.
Eye cream
Treating under eye issues doesn’t always require an in-clinic procedure, as we stock a range of eye creams that can help reduce lines and wrinkles around the eyes.
The premium eye cream we recommend to our clients is Obagi ELASTIderm Eye Cream, which increases elasticity in your skin and can help reduce lines and wrinkles around your eyes.
Our NeoStrata Renewal Cream reduces fine lines and wrinkles as well as combating sun damage. The NeoStrata Skin Active Intensive Eye Therapy cream will help reduce eyelid sagging, crow’s feet and under-eye wrinkles.
Male Cosmetic Treatments
Each of these treatments work for both men and women. However, as the male facial structure is different from that of a female, with certain features typically considered feminine, the treatments are simply applied slightly differently.
If administered by a practitioner who doesn’t have experience with male cosmetics, the result can be unnatural. At Evolve, we have a wealth of experience working with male cosmetic treatments. Our clinic is also registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC), so you can enjoy full peace of mind that your treatment is being administered in a safe and regulated environment.
Under Eye Issues FAQs
If you’re unfamiliar with how to spot dark circles and other under eye issues, explore our FAQs to learn more.
Are dark circles permanent?
Without treatment, dark circles can persist. This is due to the skin becoming looser, which is unable to return to its former state unless a procedure is carried out to increase its elasticity.
What do dark circles indicate?
Typically, dark circles are a sign of ageing, however, lack of sleep or an underlying medical condition can also cause them. Smoking can also speed up the formation of dark circles under the eyes. If you lead a healthy life and are unsure as to why you have dark circles, visit a doctor for a health assessment, especially if they are causing irritation.
Are under eye issues hereditary?
Sometimes issues that occur beneath the eyes can be passed down through your family as a result of genetics. Unfortunately, if it is in your genes, it will be unavoidable, unless you seek treatment.
Will dark circles go away with a good night’s sleep?
Whilst dark circles can form as a result of lack of sleep, there are many other factors which can also cause them. If you’re getting the right amount of sleep for your age, this can help reduce the severity of dark circles, but if it’s caused by natural ageing or another condition, sleep won’t be able to eradicate them.
Are dark circles normal?
It is normal for dark circles to form, especially as you get older. However, the severity of them can differ from person to person. If you have dark circles which affect your appearance and are damaging your self-confidence, seeking one of our popular treatments can help you achieve your desired look. To benefit from one of the above treatments, you can make a booking today or get in touch if you have any further questions.
