Do Fat Dissolving Injections Work? FactFile

Struggling with that extra bit of wobbly fat here and there, that just won’t shift? No matter how good our intentions are to eat healthily or how many hours we spend at the gym, stubborn pockets of fat tend to remain.

DesoBody fat-dissolving injections offer a fast, safe, non-surgical fat reduction solution designed to treat stubborn pockets of fat which are not responsive to diet and exercise alone.

Desobody is a product used for a treatment called injection lipolysis. Lipolysis literally means fat-dissolving and that is what the injection of Desobody into targeted areas will do over a course of treatments.

Types of fat dissolving injections

Fat dissolving injections come in two forms: Desobody and Desoface. Desobody is used for treating areas of the body such as stubborn fat on the abdomen, thighs, and buttocks, while Desoface can be used to target facial areas such as a double chin.

Fat Dissolving Injections Ingredients

The active ingredient is called sodium deoxycholate (deoxycholic acid) which is a special medical detergent which breaks down fat cells. It has a concentration of 1.25% sodium deoxycholate in DesobodyDesoface which is a lower concentration of sodium deoxycholate (0.5%), is used for treating double chins.

How fat dissolving injections are administered

Treatment with Desobody and Desoface uses a thin cannula (non-sharp needle) which is placed under the skin through a single insertion point. This means that we can evenly deliver the active ingredient in a fan-like pattern across the whole area where we are wanting to dissolve the fat cells. The amount of Desobody needed will depend on the size of the area(s) being treated. Each session will take around 45 minutes, with only mild discomfort as a local anesthetic is used to numb the area.

How many injections will you need?

With Desoface, sometimes it only takes one session to see effective results. Following treatment, you can expect some redness and swelling as the product gets to work on disrupting the fat cells, so they release their contents. There may also be some bruising and mild to moderate pain in the first 24-72 hours, which can be managed with over-the-counter pain medications like paracetamol. Repeat treatment is required, and depending on the area being treated, we recommend 2-4 sessions, spaced 4-8 weeks apart, for optimum results and fat reduction.

It’s important to remember that this is not a weight-loss solution or slimming aid. The best candidates for treatment are those who have a medium body weight (BMI), who may be just slightly overweight, and have localized fat deposits, i.e. small, specific areas of fat around their back, stomach, hips, buttocks, inner and outer thighs or knees.

Following completion of the treatment, you can expect the area of fat targeted to be reduced and the firmness of the overlying skin to also be improved.

These are some FAQs regarding these fat dissolving injections:

How does it work?

DesoBody Fat dissolving injections, also known as lipolytic injections, destroy fat cells by damaging the fat cell membrane and liquifying the fat in the treatment area. The destroyed fat cells are then broken down and removed naturally through the body’s lymphatic system.

How is DesoBody different to the older fat dissolvers on the market?

DesoBody is the newest body fat dissolving injection formula on the market to date. It contains the active ingredient sodium deoxycholate (deoxycholic acid) which is a special, FDA- approved, medical detergent to break down fat cells. It has been shown to be safer, more effective and more comfortable than other older fat dissolvers on the market.

How long before I see results?

Each patient is different however you should start seeing results from 2 to 3 weeks after your treatment. The gradual action of the solution needs time to achieve the treatment aim. A course of treatments is required for optimal fat reduction results.

What is the downtime involved for the DesoFace treatment?

Initial localized swelling and redness in the treatment area usually resolves within 3 – 4 days. There may be minor bruising, at the injection sites and/ or sensitivity and tenderness around the treated area, that will generally resolve in up to 10-14 days.
