Lip Filler: 6 Things You Need To Know

If you’re looking for a way to enhance your natural lips to give them a more voluminous, pouty look, there’s no question that lip filler could be an easy solution to achieve this. A quick treatment with immediate results, it’s easy to see why lip fillers have taken the cosmetic world by storm over recent years.

If you’re looking to boost your confidence by redefining your natural lips, here are 5 commonly asked questions about lip filler that can help you decide if this is the right course of treatment for you.

What Is A Lip Filler Treatment?

A lip filler treatment is a non-invasive, quick and easy procedure where a clear gel is injected into the lips to give them a more defined and voluminous appearance. This substance is made up of hyaluronic acid which is naturally produced in the body, making it 100% safe to inject into other areas. Over time the body naturally breaks down this substance, making lip filler the perfect temporary solution for a naturally poutier look.

What Are The Benefits Of Getting Lip Filler?

There is a common misconception that lip filler is used only to make lips appear larger in size, however, there are many benefits to getting lip fillers. One of the main ones is making your lips look and feel more hydrated. This is due to the hyaluronic acid-based substance used, which is a powerful natural moisturising agent. It also has anti-ageing properties, helping to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles.

Another benefit of lip fillers for some men and women is the self-confidence that they can bring. Lip fillers can instantly increase the size or shape of your natural lips. They can help to correct any asymmetry, giving a more even natural look across the lips, as well as create more defined borders on the lips to add further definition.

While some cosmetic substances, such as anti-wrinkle treatments, only last for approximately 3 months, lip fillers are absorbed by the body much more slowly, making them a cost-effective way to enhance your look for longer.

Can Lip Fillers Look Natural?

Absolutely! During your pre-treatment consultation, your Evolve Medical practitioner will talk to you about what end result you’d like to achieve. This will then determine how much filler is needed to achieve your desired look. This is an entirely personal choice, so whether you’d like your lips to be much fuller in appearance, or simply healthy and hydrated with just a small amount of further definition, we can tailor the treatment to your individual preferences.

How Long Does Swelling Last After Lip Fillers?

As with any cosmetic procedure, you may experience some common side effects. This can include swelling of the lips and possible bruising.

Swelling tends to be at its worst within the first 3 days, before beginning to subside, and all swelling should be completely gone within 2 weeks (or earlier). To help reduce swelling, you can ice the area on and off for 5-10 minutes at a time, immediately following your treatment and in the initial days that follow.

To prevent bruising, avoid alcohol a couple of days before and after your treatment, as this can affect the blood vessels which can enhance the look of bruising.

Does Getting Lip Fillers Hurt?

While injections into the lips can cause some minor discomfort, the procedure itself is virtually painless thanks to the local anaesthetic cream used beforehand, containing the numbing agent lidocaine. This is applied to the lips and mouth area and left on for approximately 10 minutes ahead of the procedure taking place to ensure that your lips feel completely numb before proceeding with the filler injections.

At Evolve Medical, your medical practitioner will always check to see how your lips are feeling before continuing. If for any reason you don’t feel they’re numb enough, more numbing agent can be added until you’re satisfied that your lips are adequately numbed ahead of carrying out the treatment.

How Long Do Lip Filler Injections Last?

It’s important to be aware that lip filler is not a permanent treatment. This is due to the natural breakdown of hyaluronic acid in the body, so over time, your lip fillers will naturally dissolve. The time frame of this happens differs from person to person, but on average they can last anywhere from 6-12 months before the filler is fully absorbed and a top-up appointment is required. Whenever that happens, or if you’re not sure, simply pop back to visit us at the Evolve Medical clinic and our friendly practitioners will give you a quick consultation to let you know if it’s time to book in for your next lip filler treatment.
