    Dermaplaning

    Dermaplaning

A little blog to introduce you to dermaplaning. A fantastic new treatment on offer at The Lounge.

    What is dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a skincare treatment that removes dead skin cells and fluffy hairs from the face. A surgical scalpol blade is used to gently scrape the surface of the skin using light, feathery strokes.

    How does it work?

The highly trained therapist uses the scalpol to effectively scrape away the top layers of the skin. Skin is cleansed prior to treatment. The skin is held taut during the process so there is no risk of damage from the blade. The process takes around 45 minutes. A hydrating mask can also be applied following treatment to boost the results. LED Light therapy can also be used to enhance the results.

    What are the effects?

The dermaplaning treatment will leave your skin feeling brighter and smoother. Skin will be glowing and more youthful looking. Those annoying fluffy hairs that drive you crazy will be banished!

    Results.

The results are as above. An instant improvement in skin texture and tone. Fluffy hair is gone. Skin is soft and glowing.

Long term effects of dermaplaning include a reduction in fine lines, reduction in acne scarring and an increase in cell turnover. All of which mean beautiful skin!

Will the hair grow back thicker after treatment?

Dermaplaning does not result in thicker hair.  There are two types of hair: vellous (fuzzy) and terminal hair.  Vellous hair, when removed, will grow back to the same size and shape.  The coarse hair is called terminal hair and will remain coarse when it grows back.  Dermaplaning will remove both vellous and terminal hair but will not change  the hair texture or thickness.

    Are there any side effects?

The skin may be slightly pink for a few days after treatment and light flaking is to be expected.
